The predecessor of Agricultural Bank of China is Agricultural Cooperative Bank established in 1951. Since late 1970s, the Bank has evolved from a state-owned specialized bank to a wholly state-owned commercial bank and then a state-controlled commercial bank. On 15 January 2009, the Bank was restructured into a joint stock commercial bank.
In 2009, the Bank advanced operational transformation, and continuously enhanced corporate value, competitiveness and risk control. By the end of 2009, total assets of the Bank amounted to RMB8,882,588 million, total deposits reached RMB7,497,618 million, and total loans were RMB4,138.187 million.
